They are living in fear, as one employee put it, and they feel like they have no one to turn to.

 

Similar to Florida Employees being threatened if they criticize Ron DeSantis, during the invasion of Ukraine, Russia passed a law which would put people in prison for up to 15 years for criticizing Putin and Russia’s policies. Florida Gov signs law requiring students, faculty be asked their political beliefs

The law goes into effect July 1.

Per the above article; Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed HB 233 Tuesday. The legislation will require public universities to survey students and staff annually about their beliefs to assess “viewpoint diversity” on campuses. The bill does not specifically say what will be done with survey results, but DeSantis suggested budget cuts could be imminent if universities and colleges are found to be “indoctrinating” students.

Under House Bill 233, surveys would be conducted annually on campuses to assess viewpoint diversity and intellectual freedom, and determine “the extent to which competing ideas and perspectives are presented,” and whether students and faculty “feel free to express beliefs and viewpoints on campus and in the classroom.”

The legislation, which goes into effect July 1 2021, also aims to ensure students are being shown ideas that they “may disagree with or find uncomfortable.”

The measure was among three education bills signed by DeSantis Tuesday. Other measures included an expansion of civics education for K-12 schools, including instruction about the perils of communist and totalitarian governments.

 

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried compared Gov. Ron DeSantis to Adolf Hitler during a recent interview. Fried, a Democrat who is running for governor in 2022, made the remarks during Friday’s edition of The Florida Roundup podcast. Co-host Melissa Ross, a reporter for Jacksonville public radio station WJCT, asked Fried about her past references comparing DeSantis to an “authoritarian dictator.”

“He is doing everything possible to take power away from local governments, taking away people’s abilities to protest, making it harder to vote, talking about, you know, banning books,” Fried said. “That’s what dictators do. Instead of listening and trying to govern with the people, he is trying to govern over the people, and, you know, that, I’m sorry, I’m a student of history, too. I saw the rise of Hitler.”

“This governor is doing it for the sole purposes of power and doing so to make fear and to instill that, to blame people for what is happening in their lives, blaming certain parts of our society and culture, and that’s exactly what Hitler did to the Jews back during World War II.”

Fried proclaimed that DeSantis was “not fit to serve” after the state allowed as many as 1 million at-home COVID-19 test kits to expire. DeSantis has said the demand wasn’t there at the time before the omicron surge in Florida led to long lines at testing sites throughout the state.
