Top vaccine doctor Rick Bright claims he was removed because he pushed back against the President’s constant shilling for an untested malaria drug as the “magical” cure for coronavirus.
Dr. Rick Bright says his demotion is an example of the White House putting “cronyism ahead of science.”
“In his whistleblower complaint, Bright says he raised concerns about US preparedness for coronavirus starting in January but was met with “indifference which then developed into hostility” by leaders at the Department of Health and Human Services.
Bright’s decision to go public with his concerns last month exposed months of turmoil inside one of the key divisions at HHS charged with responding to the coronavirus pandemic. His allegations raised serious questions about political bias creeping into the government’s response to the pandemic and the extent to which Trump’s preferences for a drug overshadowed its scientific merits”. Whistleblower delivers damning testimony on Trump response
Rick Bright, senior advisor with the National Institutes of Health, warned there’s still not enough testing capability in the US. “The virus is still spreading everywhere,” Bright told the House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing.
Bright was ousted last month as director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, a government agency that procures vaccines for the national stockpile. Bright claims his ouster was retaliation for his criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic, including Trump’s touting of the drug hydroxychloroquine.
“There were some attempts to bypass that rigorous vetting process that caused me great concern,” Bright testified. But Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar slammed Bright’s claims, saying he “literally signed” the application for FDA authorization of hydroxychloroquine.

Donald Trump fumed over a 60 Minutes segment in which Norah O’Donnell interviewed coronavirus whistleblower Rick Bright, with the president going so far as to suggest that ViacomCBS chairwoman Shari Redstone “knows how to make things right.”
