Matthew 25:31-46 says “For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’’

Republicans constantly site the bible to rationalize their every day actions, but are hypocrites by doing everything possible to take away assistance to the poor.

Cutting assistance to the poor is in direct violation of Christ’s teachings. Republican Christian Religious Fanatics are some of the biggest hypocrites in the world.

If you make less that $40,000 a year you would be crazy to vote for Republicans. Like Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said” I’m not concerned about the poor”.

Republicans REFUSE to increase taxes on the rich but want to increase taxes on the poor. There are many corporations which pays no taxes at all and Republicans refuse to do anything about it. Republicans are protectors of the rich and do not care about the middle class and the poor.

It would also be illegal for teachers to raise money from outside sources to pay the fines, and they would also likely be fired for offenses – and each individual student’s families could sue for $10,000. This is not just obscene, it is an attack on public education and teachers.

Banning Books Stifles Curiosity, and Ultimately Imperils Society

In recent weeks, hundreds of books have either been challenged, barred, or face proposals to get pulled from schools, curricula, and libraries across the country. They’ve been deemed “controversial” for a variety of reasons. Some say they contain “objectionable language”, they’re “too sexually explicit”, or they fall falsely accused of being about Critical Race Theory. In some cases, the problem with these books is that their contents just might make a young reader or, more likely their parents, uncomfortable. There are a host of arguments made against the books – some are simply prudish, but several are clearly racist or homophobic or transphobic, and most of it is anti-intellectual: the same sort that gets us climate deniers and anti-vaxxers. Simply put, banning books is bad. It deprives people young and old of exposure to ideas, concepts, and world views that are not their own. It stifles curiosity. It perpetuates stereotypes. And when you dampen curiosity, you weaken our ability to think critically – to know when you are being fooled. Banning books is going to make us into a stupid society, vulnerable to misinformation and manipulation. We are less informed when our choices about the range of information we consume is arbitrarily limited. Sometimes it feels like there’s too much to fight for and it’s hard to win.

As the United States is gets closer and closer to outright fascism, classrooms represent crucial sites of resistance.

“It’s important during this dark time to remember that banning books and threatening teachers isn’t new. Former high school history teacher, Ursula Wolfe-Rocca, compiled an excellent critical review of McCarthyism for the Zinn Education Project. She reminds us of the long history of targeting anti-racist, queer, leftist, and anti-war organizers and educators.

When I read about the current anti-Critical Race Theory push in schools, I also think of educators more recently who risked their jobs in order to promote conversations about equity.

As we consider our strategies to push back against rising fascism today, we would do well to remember its historical roots in this country. In doing so, we can also find examples of educators who resisted. While silencing critical thought in American schools is not new, certain aspects of this moment feel uniquely dangerous.

Across the country, Republican-controlled states are passing laws that are limiting access to voting, gerrymandering districts, and changing the way votes are counted and certified. Without federal intervention, we will enter into a dismal new period in the United States. The same folks who want to ban books and anti-racist teaching will control our government at every level.
What Can Educators Do?

To fight fascism from your classroom, you can’t do it alone. In her dedication of We Do This ‘Til We Free Us, Mariame Kaba shares wisdom from her father, “Everything worthwhile is done with others.” Practically every significant social change in history was accomplished through collective action. Joining a community means access to resources, wisdom, and support. And if something goes wrong, you won’t be alone.

As you fight fascism in your classroom, remember to do what you do best. When people disagree with your politics, they will try to attack your skill and expertise. Don’t let them. Come to your class prepared. Make space for student-led discussion and inquiry, but ground your teaching in facts. The Morningside Center offers ten guidelines for teaching about controversial topics.

Our job as educators has always been to help students make sense of the world. That way they make a difference in it. Students need to learn about the history and presence of racism in the United States. They also need an understanding of the Constitution, as well as fights over democracy that have taken place in the United States. Classrooms must be places where students learn this context. Only then can they comprehend and fight back against the rising threat of fascism”.

“My name is Anthony Crawford. I’m a teacher in Oklahoma, and I’m also part of a group of educators and students represented by the ACLU in a lawsuit against the state’s law, HB 1775 – which severely restricts learning and talking about race and gender in the classroom.

You see, Oklahoma, where I live and teach, is one of nine states that passed classroom censorship bills last year that try to silence conversations about race and gender – bills that chill students’ and educators’ First Amendment right to talk about issues that impact our everyday lives.

State lawmakers and school boards across the country have also made moves to remove books by Black, LGBTQ, and other authors discussing race, gender, and sexuality from curriculums amidst the ongoing debate about teaching “critical race theory” in schools.

But this isn’t the first time America has tried to eradicate certain truths out of history books. Read my story in full here and you’ll get a bigger picture of what I’m talking about.

When I was a junior in high school, for instance, I was kicked out of AP History class just for asking when we were going to learn about Black history. It was Black History Month, Anthony.

Later, when I became a teacher, I made it my goal to equip my students with a curriculum that incorporates readings on race and gender – that gives them an accurate picture of history, that helps them understand what kind of society they live in, and how this reality came into being.

Some aspects of Black history can be hard to talk about, but learning about it builds students’ confidence and empowers them to take life into their own hands.

That’s also one of the reasons why I’ve chosen to defy HB 1775 by not altering my teaching – and why, again, I hope you’ll dive into my story on this urgent fight against censorship alongside the ACLU right now.

After all, the more of us there are who are informed and speaking out – the stronger we can be for our students and our right to learn.

Cameron said that “over the years, the right-wing hosts drowned out straight journalism with partisan misinformation.” According to CNN, Smith believed “that his presence on Fox became untenable as opinion shows on the network spread falsehoods that hosts knew were lies.” Stirewalt admitted that Fox became “an arm of a political party” during the Trump years. And there was even more on-the-record criticism of the network from former employees who said they were “increasingly embarrassed by the channel,” which had become “a destructive propaganda machine” during the Trump era”.

“Federal subsidies and tax breaks prop up fossil fuel development, even when drilling projects should be too expensive to turn a profit. Below-market leasing rates, royalties and fees subsidize oil and gas companies, encouraging them to exploit our public lands and leaving taxpayers on the hook for the environmental damage.

In the “Build Back Better” Act, Congress has an opportunity to make oil and gas corporations play by the same rules as everyone else. The House has included common-sense oil and gas reforms in its version of the bill, and the Senate should follow suit.

Taxpayers should get a fair return from oil and gas companies that drill on publicly owned lands and waters. The House bill would make this change. Right now, these polluters pay below-market rates to extract resources that belong to all Americans.

The federal government’s current 12.5% royalty rate for onshore drilling was established by the Mineral Leasing Act of 1920. It has not been updated for more than a century, even where technological advances have reduced the financial risk of drilling. By contrast, states are far more aggressive in ensuring their taxpayers are not ripped off — even states that tend to be friendly to fossil fuel companies — with Wyoming and Utah collecting about 17% in royalties and Texas going as high as 25%.

Modernizing the federal royalty rate would provide huge benefits to Americans. Taxpayers lost out on more than $12 billion over the past decade because polluters weren’t paying fair market rates for drilling on public lands and waters, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense. Recovering these dollars would enable Congress to allocate more money to other programs in the bill, including those that protect the environment and make it easier for families to afford the rising costs of childcare, pre-K and higher education.

The House’s Build Back Better Act also closes a legal loophole that leaves taxpayers, instead of oil and gas companies, on the hook for cleaning up shut-down wells. Under the current requirements, the bonding coverage that polluters purchase up front to make sure environmental remediation costs are paid doesn’t come close to covering the actual cleanup costs. In effect, that means that oil and gas companies can profit off pollution, then leave taxpayers to deal with the mess they leave behind”.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a proclamation Thursday limiting the amount of drop-off locations for mail-in ballots to one site per county.

Per the above article; The move significantly affects the Democratic stronghold of Harris County, which is the state’s largest county by population — one of the most populous in the country — and covers a massive area. It must now reduce its 12 drop-off locations down to one starting on Friday, according to Elizabeth Lewis, spokeswoman for the Harris County Clerk’s Office. Travis County, which includes the reliably Democratic city of Austin, must limit its four drop-off locations to one.

Other large counties — like Tarrant, Dallas and El Paso County — only had one drop-off location already in place.

Judge Lina Hidalgo, the top elected official in Harris County, told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on “PrimeTime” Thursday evening, “There is no reason for this decision to limit us to one drop-off location other than voter suppression.”

Calling the drop-off sites “secure” and “safe,” Hidalgo urged Texas residents to consider, “If these leaders truly are doing right by you, why are they so afraid of you voting?”

“I’m reminding our residents here in Harris County, our citizens, that we are not to be intimidated. That this is a time to participate, and, yes, it’s going to be harder and, yes, they’re trying to confuse and they’re trying to suppress the vote, but for that very reason, we need to show everyone who’s watching that we’re going to participate because it’s about democracy.”

The state’s Democratic party chair, Gilberto Hinojosa, labeled the step a “blatant voter suppression tactic” in a press release.

“The governor is making it harder for people to vote in the middle of a global pandemic that has claimed the lives of over 16,000 Texans,” the group said in a statement. “It is a shameful, blatant act of voter suppression that will disproportionately impact the large number of Black and Latinx voters in Texas’ biggest counties.”

Trump Pushes Voter Fraud Claim Without Evidence

 

Trump continues to add false and exaggerated statements to his already lengthy list of bogus voter fraud claims.

There is no evidence to back up Trump’s blanket claim that “mailed ballots are corrupt.” Voting experts say the president is exaggerating when he says mail ballots are “fraudulent in many cases.” While the instances of voter fraud via mail-in or absentee ballots are more common than in-person voting fraud, the number of known cases is relatively rare.

Trump also falsely claimed that California reached a settlement with Judicial Watch in which the state “agree[d] that a million people should not have voted.” California and Los Angeles County agreed to remove inactive voters from their voter rolls per federal law. But there’s no evidence any of them voted, fraudulently or otherwise.

And as he has in the past, Trump claimed there’s “a lot of fraudulent voting going on in this country.” Experts say voter fraud is rare.

Trump’s latest round of voter fraud claims came as Wisconsin struggled with an election at a time when residents were wary of going to polls during the coronavirus pandemic.

Some Wisconsin Democrats, including Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, urged to hold the election by mail and suspend in-person voting. Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers tried to move the state’s April 7, but after a Republican challenge, the state Supreme Court ruled the governor’s decision was unconstitutional and the election went off as scheduled on April 7 with long lines and fewer polling places.

Enright just dropped out of the race after accusations surfaced that his companion – whom he lived with until her death in 2007 – has been voting from the grave for five years since her death. Enright claims he’s dropping out of the race for other reasons – and denies any role in illegally voting on behalf of his former companion. Seems fishy, though. And then there’s Ann Coulter – one of the most shrill, hateful Conservative voices on television. As reported by the BradBlog – in both 2002 and 2004 – Coulter illegally cast absentee ballots in Connecticut – despite her ACTUALLY being a resident of – and living in – New York. That’s voter fraud.

Just like it was voter fraud when former Republican Presidential candidate Jon Huntsman voted in 2010 – claiming his Governor’s mansion in Utah as his official address – even though he no longer was Governor – and no longer lived in the mansion. Just like it was voter fraud when Indiana’s Republican Secretary of State – Charlie White – the top election official in the state – was found guilty of several felony charges like lying on voter registration forms, voting in the wrong precincts, and submitting false ballots”.
