Republicans Subvert Democracy in Michigan
This SHOCKING video exposes how Republicans has no regard for the will of the people OR Democracy. Michigan Republicans have passed over 546 bills under “immediate effect” without even counting the votes as shown in the next video below. Republican Governor Rick Snyder installed Emergency Managers using the Emergency Manager Law. These Emergency Managers can bypass and circumvent the power of elected officials and do practically anything they want.
A Republicans PAC in Michigan which calls its self “Citizens for Fiscal Responsibility” blocked REAL Michigan citizens petition drive to get the Emergency Manager Law repealed by claiming the font size of the heading is smaller than required by Michigan Election Law.
Citizens should have the right to have this put on the ballot. Using a font size to try and stop this from being put to a vote is OUTRAGEOUS
This video shows how Michigan Republicans are ramming legislation through which is going into immediate effect, even though they don’t have the 2/3 majority vote required by law. Note how Republican Michigan Speaker of the House Subverts Democracy by NOT counting the votes. This is a OUTRAGE and goes against everything democracy is supposed to stand for.
GOP War on Democracy
Fed up citizens created a petition to overturn the Emergency Manager Law. The people of Michigan got enough votes to repeal the Emergency Manager Law during the 2012 Presidential election. The response from the Republican Majority Michigan Senate, House and Governor Rick Snyder was to create a NEW Emergency Manager Law is almost impossible to get overturned of by voter referendum. This is another example of how Republicans don’t give a DAMN about the will of the people.
Something Rotten in Michigan
There’s a fight to keep democracy alive in Michigan. First – there’s Governor Rick Snyder – who moved into the Governors Mansion last year – and immediately passed one of the most controversial laws this nation has ever seen. It was called Public Act 4 – which gave Snyder the power to appoint what he calls a “financial manager” – or what I call a “little dictator” – to seize control of a city in Michigan – fire all the local elected officials – break union contracts – slash spending on social services – and sell off huge chunks of the commons at a fire-sale price to corporate buddies. So far – cities like Benton Harbor – Flint – Ecorse – and Pontiac have met this fate – and citizens of those cities no longer have control of their local democracy. This is literally – at least at the local level – the death of democracy.

NAACP officials announce a federal lawsuit challenging Michigan’s emergency manager law on Monday, May 13, 2013. The Detroit Branch of the NAACP filed a federal lawsuit against Gov. Rick Snyder, Treasurer Andy Dillon and Secretary of State Ruth Johnson on Monday, claiming the voting rights of more than half the state’s African Americans are being violated by the state’s emergency manager law.
Lawyers in a press conference outside the courthouse said they’ll seek a temporary, then a permanent injunction to remove emergency managers from office in Detroit, Flint, Pontiac, Allen Park, Benton Harbor, the Highland Park school district, the Muskegon Heights school district and the Detroit school district.
